KACRAN commends Tinubu’s groundbreaking push for livestock development

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s livestock sector through strategic initiatives aimed at elevating the industry and its value chains.

In a statement signed by KACRAN’s National President, Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, the association expressed its appreciation for Tinubu’s historic decision to establish the Ministry of Livestock Development.

This is the first time in Nigeria’s history that the livestock sector has been given such priority, marking a notable shift in national policy after years of underinvestment and neglect.

According to KACRAN, previous administrations overlooked the sector’s potential, focusing instead on oil revenue, which led to an imbalance between arable and livestock farming.

Under the “Renewed Hope” agenda, President Tinubu’s administration has prioritised livestock development, a move KACRAN says will stimulate economic growth, improve food security, and create millions of jobs.

The association also noted that the new ministry recognises the importance of the livestock sector, which employs over 30% of Nigeria’s rural population, in contributing to the nation’s GDP and addressing food security.

KACRAN further lauded the creation of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee, led by Tinubu himself, as a proactive step to tackle issues facing Nigerian pastoralists. The association assured the President of its full support and pledged to collaborate with the new ministry and other stakeholders to achieve their shared goals.

Hon. Bello also acknowledged the contributions of Alhaji Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, former Governor of Kano State and APC National Chairman, who was instrumental in forming the committee. KACRAN expressed gratitude to Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega and other committee members for their dedication, as well as Mrs. Winnie Lai Solarin, Director of Animal Husbandry Services, for her consistent support.

The association is optimistic that the committee will serve as a critical advisory body, offering solutions to longstanding issues such as farmer-herder conflicts and enhancing sectoral progress.

As the new initiatives unfold, KACRAN reiterated its commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s goals for the livestock industry, which include boosting food security, job creation, and attracting both domestic and international investment. Hon. Bello also extended appreciation to Senator Musa Mustapha, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Livestock, for his dedication to these transformative efforts.

Through these developments, KACRAN hopes to see Nigeria’s livestock sector flourish for the benefit of all Nigerians.
