KACRAN urges intervention to save historic Yobe cattle route

The residents of Gamawa village in Potiskum local government area of Yobe state are crying out for help as their long-standing cattle route faces the risk of being lost forever.

The route, which has existed for over 100 years and connects Niger Republic to Cameroon Republic, has been demarcated into plots and converted into farm land by unpatriotic elements.

According to the community leader, Malam Mohamed Ali Gamawayel, “This cattle route is our lifeblood, and we cannot afford to lose it.

We are appealing to His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Executive Chairman of Potiskum local government, Hon Salisu Muktari, and the National President of Kulen Allan, Hon Khalil Mohamed Bello, to come to our aid and rescue our cattle route.”

Gamawayel emphasized that the conversion of the cattle route into farm land is not only a threat to the community’s livelihood but also a threat to national security.

“Tempering with cattle routes in Nigeria is like tempering with the security of the nation,” he said. “We are passionately appealing to the Chairman, Alhaji Salisu Muktari, as a matter of emergency, to intervene into this matter and solve the problem.”

The National President of Kulen Allan Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN), Hon Khalil Mohamed Bello, has condemned the conversion of cattle routes into farm land, stating that it is a serious threat to state and national security.

“We reject and condemn in unmistakable terms any illegal act of converting existing cattle routes into plots or farm land,” he said.

“We are optimistic that His Excellency Hon Mai Mala Buni and the Executive Chairman of Potiskum LG, Hon Salisu Muktari, will come to the aid of the people of Gamawayel and resolve this issue.”
