Kano gov’t distributes ₦12.7m to 281 victims of fire disaster
The Kano State Government has distributed ₦12.7 million to 281 victims of fire disasters, as part of its efforts to provide relief to affected individuals.
Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by Alhaji Adda’u Kutama, Special Adviser, Cabinet Office, emphasised that the financial aid was aimed at alleviating the losses suffered by the victims. He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely.
The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, praised the governor for the intervention and recalled the devastating fire incidents that occurred on December 3, 2023, at Kasuwar Yan Katako and Bakin Kasuwa Asibiti Gwarzo Market.
“Out of the 281 beneficiaries, 57 are from Yan Katako Market, Rijiyar Lemo, Dala Local Government; while 224 are from Bakin Kasuwa Asibiti Market in Gwarzo Local Government,” Kubarachi said.
He noted that SEMA had conducted a thorough assessment of the damages and submitted a report to facilitate the financial assistance.

Kubarachi also advised the public, especially women using firewood and charcoal during the harmattan season, to handle fire cautiously. He further urged residents to switch off electrical appliances when leaving their homes or going to bed to prevent fire outbreaks.
Alhaji Suraj Imam, Chairman of Dala Local Government Area, expressed gratitude to the state government for supporting the victims.
One of the beneficiaries, Malam Yusuf Muhammad, speaking on behalf of others, commended the state government for its generosity and promised that the funds would be used judiciously.
