Kano Hisbah arrests two youths over alleged same-sex marriage

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

The Kano State Hisbah Board, under the command of Sheikh Ibrahim Aminu Daurawa, conducted a patrol resulting in the arrest of two youths for their alleged involvement in a same-sex marriage, which is deemed unlawful under the existing laws.

Sheikh Daurawa, the newly appointed commander general, previously served in the same position for eight years during Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s tenure as the governor of Kano. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently reappointed him to lead the board.

During his recent swearing-in ceremony, Sheikh Daurawa vowed to continue his efforts to uphold the law and work in collaboration with civil societies to restore order and decency in Kano society by combating issues like prostitution.

The two youths, identified as Abubakar and Halifa, were subsequently paraded before the media.

They admitted to holding an event on the day of their arrest but refuted the same-sex marriage allegation, claiming that the occasion was in fact their birthday celebration.

They clarified that they were in the process of planning their marriage rights in accordance with Kano Hisbah’s regulations.

Kano Hisbah detained both Abubakar and Halifa, along with those who attended the gathering, asserting that they would remain in custody until further directives from the Kano Hisbah for their release.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Kano Hisbah Board has initiated a massive wedding exercise for members of the Abba Gida Gida political movement, extending its benefits to Muslims and Non-Muslims alike.
