KAROTA deploys 2000 personnel ahead of Sallah celebration, warns against underage driving

Story from Shafaatu DAUDA, Kano

Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) have concluded plans for the deployment of no fewer than 2,000 personnel across the state during the forthcoming Sallah celebration.

In a statement on Saturday by Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, Public Relations Officer of the agency, said the operation was part of the agency’s mandate to ensure free flow of traffic in the state.

“Agency deemed it necessary to deploy large number of its personnel during the festivity period considering large turnout of vehicles and other road users recorded during the period.”

According to the statement “The officers have been charged to ensure motorists and other road users comply with all state laws with regards to driving and the use of roads so as to prevent unnecessary traffic hold-ups recorded during such festivity in the past,”

The statement pointed out that the agency will arrest and prosecute anyone who violates traffic laws during the season as some unscrupulous persons have made it a habit to engage in dangerous driving, thereby endangering their lives and those of others.

The statement maintained that the Managing Director, Baffa Babba Dan’agundi admonished parents to desist from the habit of giving their underage children vehicle to drive especially during this period as any child caught driving would be arrested, fined and have his vehicle seized just as reckless driving and over speeding would also be dealt with.

“The general public and all road users are therefore advised to adhere strictly to all traffic laws before, during and after the Sallah festive holidays to avoid unfortunate incidences that could lead to injury, loss of lives or properties”. The statement said.
