Katsina NAWOJ backs Governor’s swift action against alleged sexual assault

The Katsina State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has expressed staunch support for Governor Malam Umar Dikko Radda’s decisive measures in addressing the alleged sexual assault on a female student by a school principal.

The incident, described as a “dastardly act,” has drawn condemnation from the women journalists, who emphasize the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.

In a statement signed by Hannatu Mohammed, the Chairperson, and Faith Awa Maji, Secretary, Katsina State NAWOJ commended the governor for his decisive measures in addressing the issue.

They urged him to continue in this vein to rid the state of sexual assault in all its forms.

“Your Excellency sir, we are solidly behind you, especially in the fight against rapists and their cohorts to rid our State of sexual assault in all its forms,” affirmed Hannatu Mohammed, Chairperson of Katsina State NAWOJ.

However, the association also called on the governor to expedite the committee’s investigation into another similar crime allegedly committed against a female journalist by her General Manager. They expressed their patient anticipation for the outcome of the inquiry and emphasized the importance of justice.

In addition, Katsina State NAWOJ urged the Commissioner of Police in the state to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged involvement of its Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Dandume. The association reiterated its commitment to ensuring a society free from the victimization of women by individuals and collaborators who disregard gender equality.

“We will not allow the victimization of women to persist in our society by a few individuals and their collaborators who have no respect for gender equality,” stated Faith Awa Maji, Secretary of Katsina State NAWOJ.

The association affirmed its dedication to utilising all legitimate channels to combat gender bias in schools and workplaces, emphasizing the need to ensure that perpetrators of such assaults face the full consequences of the law.
