Kidnapped Catholic priest in Kaduna regains freedom

The Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Yakubu, who was kidnapped in Kaduna, has been released less than 24 hours after his abduction.

In a statement issued by the Chancellor of Kafanchan diocese, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Uchechowe Okolo, it was revealed that Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Yakubu was freed on Monday evening.

The statement, made available to journalists in Kaduna, expressed immense joy and gratitude.

“We rejoice and offer our heartfelt praises as we share the news of the safe return of our brother, Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Yakubu. He was abducted by armed individuals from the Rectory at Holy Trinity Parish, Karku, in Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, late in the evening on Sunday, June 11, 2023.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to all those who offered prayers and supplications for the swift release of our beloved Priest, as well as others who remain captive in the hands of their abductors.

“We fervently pray to God to expedite the release of those who are still held captive.”

“All our Priests have been instructed to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving to God tomorrow, June 13, 2023, in commemoration of the quick release of Fr. Jerry Yakubu.”
