Kogi State is to be enlisted as one of the oil-producing states in the Country.

The Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission overseeing Kogi and Benue States, Mr Samuel Maagbe made this known when a team from the Commission visited Governor Yahaya Bello at the Government House Lokoja.

Mr Maagbe noted that during the recent plenary of the Commission, Kogi was enlisted as an oil-producing state, saying that the proposal has been forwarded to the Presidency for approval.

According to him, the proposal when approved by President Muhammadu Buhari will attract more development to the state.

He said the delegation was in the state to get input from relevant stakeholders in Kogi on the review of the present Revenue Allocation formula.

Governor Yahaya Bello who was represented by his Deputy Chief Edward Onoja described the recognition of Kogi as an oil-producing state by the Commission as a welcome development.

The Governor said the review of revenue allocation from the federal account is a specific constitution mandate of the commission every four years.

According to him, the present formula is not in favour of the states and Local Government system in the country, pointing out that the move to review the sharing formula is commendable.

In a remark, the Commissioner of Finance Asiwaju Idris Ashiru said the improvement of revenue in the state will give more room for infrastructural and security development of the state thereby creating enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

In their separate speeches, representatives of the civil society and the state NLC commended the commission for the move.
