Kwara police heighten security following Suleja jailbreak

In response to the recent jailbreak at the Suleja Medium Custodial Centre in Niger State, the Kwara State Police Command has escalated security measures. The Command, through its spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, emphasized its commitment to vigilance and safeguarding residents.

On the night of April 24, 2024, a severe rainstorm struck the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, leading to the escape of 118 inmates due to a breach in the perimeter fence. The Nigerian Correctional Service swiftly initiated recapture protocols, successfully apprehending 13 escapees. Efforts, in collaboration with other security agencies, are ongoing to recapture the remaining 105 inmates.

Recognizing the security implications as a neighboring state, the Kwara State Police Commissioner, Victor Olaiya, assured the public of heightened vigilance and close collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure safety within the state.

Patrols along border areas have been intensified, and surveillance in vulnerable locations has been bolstered. The Command urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies, emphasizing collective efforts in maintaining peace and security.
