Kwara police tightens security for Yuletide as police, NSCDC roll out massive deployment
The Kwara State Police Command has intensified security arrangements across the state ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, with increased patrols and surveillance in key public locations.
The Command said visibility policing, intelligence-led patrols and targeted operations have been strengthened around places of worship, markets, recreational and event centres, motor parks, highways and other public spaces to ensure the safety of residents during the festive season.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the measures reflect the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, to proactive policing and the protection of lives and property.
She explained that the deployment aligns with the nationwide Yuletide security strategy of the Nigeria Police Force under the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. According to her, tactical and specialised units have been placed on heightened alert, with continuous surveillance and raids ongoing in identified blackspots and flashpoints across the state.

Ejire-Adeyemi added that officers on duty have been directed to remain professional, firm and courteous while carrying out their responsibilities. She assured residents of the Command’s determination to maintain peace and security before, during and after the festive period, while wishing them a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
The Police Command also urged members of the public to stay vigilant, celebrate responsibly and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s control room numbers: 07032069501 and 08125275046.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has deployed 2,380 personnel across the state to complement security efforts during the Yuletide season.
In a statement signed by the NSCDC spokesperson in the state, Shola Michael, the Corps said the deployment covers all 16 local government areas.
The personnel were drawn from specialised units, including the Armed Squad, Operational Harmony, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Anti-Vandal Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) Unit, to protect critical national assets, public facilities and ensure the safety of residents throughout the festivities.
