Two persons on Saturday have reportedly died in the Surulere area of Lagos State as thugs invaded polling units during the local government primary elections organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state.
In a Twitter engagement monitored by Neptune Prime, users in some parts of the state posted pictures of two persons lying lifeless on the ground.
According to a tweet by a renowned Nollywood actress Uche Jumbo @uchejumbo, she wrote, “2 feared dead… On top surulere LGA primary elections. LGA primary!!!!
#SurulereUnderSiege”
Another user, @OMODUDUWANIMI wrote, “According to reports 2 people are feared dead in surulere Ayilara Haastrup Axis.
Gbajas Thugs BARESI AND FAIDA have been shooting since last night.
#SurulereUnderSiege.”
Also, @_BHENJI wrote, “If this is happening during primary elections of local government elections, I wonder what will happen during national election 2023 #SurulereUnderSiege.”
@RafiatAtanda wrote, “If a primary election turns out this way, what happens when it’s “secondary”? Election no be war now! For once, why can’t we let the people decide? Why is it so hard for democracy to thrive?
#SurulereUnderSiege.”
Elsewhere at Ifako-Ijaye local government area in the state, there was pandemonium in the polling centre as seen in the video.
As of the time of this report, appropriate authorities are yet to respond.
