Lagos Building Collapse: Sanwo-Olu suspends LASBCA boss, death toll rises to 15

Barely 24 hours after the collapse of a 21-storey building which was under construction in the Ikoyi area of Lagos, the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the suspension of Mr. Gbolahan Oki, the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).

However, Mr Oki, on Monday, revealed that the agency had approved only 15 storeys but the owner ignored it and proceeded to add six more storeys before the unfortunate incident occurred.

“We have recovered more bodies. The death toll now stands at 15, while nine persons were pulled out alive,” Farinloye affirmed.

On the other hand, Mr Gbenga Omotosho, the state information and strategy commissioner in a statement said, “more equipment and personnel have been deployed on the site to save more lives.”

“The government will surely find out what went wrong and punish those indicted” and disclosed that Oki is “suspended from work immediately – the suspension is indefinite.”

He disclosed that the nine survivors pulled out of the collapsed building were all men and are receiving prompt medical attention at the hospital.
