Landlord to serve double life sentence for assaulting tenant’s daughters

A 65-year-old man, Igwe Ambrose, has been sentenced to double life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his tenant’s seven- and eleven-year-old children.

The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court delivered the verdict on Monday, following a ruling by Justice Abiola Soladoye.

This decision was made by proving Ambrose’s four counts of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child beyond a reasonable doubt.

During the trial, it was revealed that Ambrose, under the guise of assisting the children with their schoolwork, engaged in inappropriate physical contact with them.

Justice Soladoye condemned his actions, describing him as a “filthy old man” for touching the children indecently and caressing their breasts.

The children, upon confiding in their mother, reported the incidents, leading to the involvement of the police. Upon denial of the allegations, the defendant was found guilty of the charges filed against him, violating Sections 135 and 261 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Laws.

The State Counsel, Mrs. Olufunke Adegoke, presented four witnesses, including the mother of the survivors, the investigating police officer, and the two affected children.

The offences were said to have taken place at Shagari Estate in Ipaja, Lagos, between January and June of 2021.
