Lawmaker suspended over social media posts
The Anambra State House of Assembly has suspended Hon. Bernard Udemezue, who represents Ayamelum Constituency, for three months over “damaging content” he shared on social media.
The controversy began when Udemezue, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, posted on his social media pages, alleging that his constituency was being marginalised in the distribution of constituency allowances. His posts quickly gained attention and led to criticism from within the Assembly.
Last week, during a plenary session, the issue was raised as a motion of urgent public importance by Hon. Tony Muobike of Aguata II Constituency and seconded by the Chief Whip, Hon. Jude Ngobili of Ihiala I Constituency.

The Speaker, Somtochukwu Udeze, then referred the matter to the Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges for investigation.
The committee presented its findings today, leading the House to vote for Udemezue’s three-month suspension.
The decision is the latest development in a series of controversies involving the lawmaker, who has recently made public disclosures about constituency funds and questioned the circumstances surrounding the death of his colleague, the late Justice Azuka.
