Lawmakers earmark N30 billion for renovation of National Assembly building

National Assembly members have designated an additional N30bn for the ongoing renovation of the National Assembly Complex in the 2024 Appropriation Bill.

This increment brings the total budget for the National Assembly to N344.85bn, marking a significant increase from the initial allocation of N197.93bn.

President Bola Tinubu signed off on the revised budget on January 1st, 2024, making it the largest allocation ever designated for the legislature.

The total amount designated for the renovation of the National Assembly now stands at N60bn, with the additional N30bn specifically set aside for the refurbishment of the building.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who also serves as the President of the National Assembly, had previously announced that President Bola Tinubu would inaugurate various ongoing projects at the National Assembly, including the N30bn renovation in December 2023.

Despite initial completion deadlines being postponed, with the latest being December 2023, checks conducted in January 2024 indicate that the renovation of the National Assembly Complex is yet to be fully completed, with ongoing work still in progress on the premises.
