Maiduguri Flood: Atiku donates ₦100m to Borno govt

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has donated N100 million to the Borno State Government for the relief of victims affected by the Alau Dam flood disaster. The donation was made during his visit to Borno’s capital, Maiduguri, where he met with Governor Babagana Zulum on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

During the visit, Atiku expressed his deep condolences to the government and people of Borno, particularly to those who had lost family members in the flood. He also prayed for the souls of those who had died and for the swift recovery of the injured and those who had lost their homes and properties.

In addition to the monetary donation, Atiku announced that he had reached out to his circle of friends and associates to encourage more contributions for flood relief efforts in the state. This gesture aligns with Atiku’s track record of humanitarian interventions, notably during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he mobilized support to address urgent needs across Nigeria.

Governor Zulum, in his response, thanked Atiku for the compassionate visit and the generous support. He acknowledged that the people of Borno deeply appreciated the former vice president’s solidarity during this trying period, stating that Atiku’s contribution represents a powerful symbol of hope for the flood victims.

Atiku’s donation is part of a larger humanitarian response to the flooding in Borno, which has displaced thousands of people and caused significant damage to homes and infrastructure. Governor Zulum has previously announced the closure of schools and other measures to manage the impact of the disaster.
