Major-General builds educational centre in hometown 

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General O.O. Oluyede, has reiterated the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation.

Represented by Major General M.S. Ahmed, the Army Chief made this statement during the commissioning of a large-scale educational centre in Chinade, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The educational facility, built by Major General Aminu Shehu Chinade in his hometown, features six classrooms, two dormitories, and additional infrastructure designed to benefit both children and adults in the community.

The project focuses on the Nigerian Army’s dedication to fostering development alongside its primary duty of national security.

General Oluyede emphasised that the responsibility of protecting lives and property rests firmly with the armed forces and other security agencies, assuring Nigerians that the military will not waver in fulfilling its obligations.

He also urged citizens to support the security forces in carrying out their duties effectively.

Commending Major General Chinade for his initiative, General Oluyede noted the military’s role in supporting developmental projects by senior officers.

“This joint effort aligns with our system of encouraging senior military officers to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities,” he remarked.

Speaking on his motivation for the project, Major General Chinade revealed that it was his way of giving back to the community that nurtured him.

“I received free education from primary to secondary school, and this is my responsibility to contribute to my people,” he stated.

Chinade also highlighted the impact of a scholarship foundation he launched three years ago, which has provided educational support to over 200 students.

He extended gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for his encouragement, as well as the Bauchi State Government, the Emir of Katagum, and the Katagum Local Government Area for their support in making the project a reality.

The inauguration marks a significant step in bridging educational gaps in the region, with the Nigerian Army reaffirming its dual role in security and community development.
