Man remanded in court for severing wife’s hand
A Chief Magistrate Court 1 in Enugu State has ordered the remand of Sunday Echeji, who is accused of severing his wife’s hand.
The arraignment took place on Friday, February 1, following widespread outrage over the incident.
The attack occurred in Ugwuogede village, Ibagwa-Agu, Nsukka Local Government Area, leaving the community in shock.
Echeji is facing charges of attempted murder under Section 275, Subsection A of the Criminal Code CAP 30, Vol. 1, Revised Laws of Enugu State, 2024.
However, due to the magistrate court’s lack of jurisdiction, the case has been transferred to the State Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Echeji is currently being held at the Enugu State Correctional Centre, awaiting arraignment in the State High Court.
