Mary Earps slams Man United’s direction, likely exit for PSG

Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps has announced her departure from the club, citing her career ambitions and the club’s transition under minority owner Jim Ratcliffe. Earps, an England international, has reportedly turned down a new contract offer and is close to signing with Paris Saint-Germain.

Earps expressed her decision in an Instagram post, stating, “Dear the United family, after five years of service to your great club, I have decided that it’s time for a new challenge… The club is about to undergo a period of transition, and unfortunately, I don’t feel it aligns with the timing of where I’m at in my career.”

Manchester United acknowledged her departure in a statement, thanking her for her service and wishing her well.

Earps’s exit follows the departure of club captain Katie Zelem and striker Lucia Garcia. Earps joined United in 2019, made 125 appearances, and achieved significant milestones, including setting a WSL record for clean sheets and finishing fifth in the women’s Ballon d’Or voting.

Despite the women’s team securing their first major trophy last season, United finished fifth in the WSL and are not yet in a position to challenge for the league title or the Champions League.

The club plans to overhaul their training facilities, leading to the women’s team leaving their current base.
