Military jet crashes in Niger community, pilots eject safely

A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) jet crashed on Saturday afternoon in Karabonde, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, prompting panic among residents after a loud explosion was heard in the community.

Eyewitnesses said the two pilots on board successfully ejected moments before the aircraft went down, averting casualties. Locals reported seeing the jet descending rapidly before a plume of smoke rose from the crash site.

A video shared online by local media showed villagers gathered at a distance as thick black smoke billowed from the wreckage.

Security personnel have reportedly been deployed to secure the area, while investigations into the cause of the crash are expected to commence immediately.

As of press time, the Nigerian Air Force has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
