Nigeria’s Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has pleaded with popular rapper, Naira Marley, to halt his protest scheduled to hold today, Tuesday, October 6, 2020, against police brutality.

The singer had announced that the protest will begin by 9 am at the second toll gate in Lagos.

Naira Marley, who had initially declined participation in any protest over the fear of being imprisoned, added that the protest must be peaceful, and free from stealing or vandalism.

No vandalism, no fights and no stealing.” he tweeted.

However, Dare took to his official Twitter handle to ask the Mafo crooner to stop the protest slated for today.

The minister noted that Naira Marley’s grievance is being addressed at the ‘highest level of government’.

He tweeted, “I urge you and other youth not to embark upon any protest. Your grievances are being addressed at the highest level of government. As the Minister in charge of youth, I know this is an issue that must be tackled. Government is doing just that.”

Responding to the Minister’s tweet, Naira Marley simply asked if Dare cared about the youths in the country.

“Ekale Sir. We have heard this before. Four times. Why will this time be different? Do you really care about the youth? Many of us have been killed and they harass us every day. What is the assurance this time? We need assurance,” the singer wrote.
