Moroccan Earthquake Horror: Death toll soars to 632, hundreds injured
The death toll from a powerful earthquake near Marrakech has tragically risen to 632, with an additional 329 people reported injured, according to Moroccan government officials who are currently assessing the extent of the damage.
Initially, authorities had reported that a 6.8 magnitude earthquake claimed the lives of over 296 individuals on Saturday. However, the situation worsened as more information became available.
The earthquake inflicted severe damage on buildings in major cities, causing panic among residents who fled into the streets. Most of the casualties are believed to have occurred in remote areas to the south of Marrakech.

In Marrakech itself, witnesses reported collapsed buildings, including several within the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and extensive cracks in sections of the city’s medieval walls.
This earthquake ranks among the strongest to hit Morocco in recent memory. Although such events are infrequent, a 5.8 magnitude tremor in 1960 resulted in thousands of deaths.
The tremors from this earthquake were so powerful that they reverberated as far away as Portugal and Algeria, highlighting the disaster’s regional impact.
