The Belgians, after years of protests, finally acknowledged this terrible atrocity and recently, the daughter of one of the mercenaries who dismembered and dissolved Lumumba’s body in acid gave back a tooth that had been kept as a souvenir.
That tooth was received by the Congolese government and a full funeral ceremony was conducted. It was returned to the Congo for burial at the memorial site that was originally erected by Mobutu back in 1965.
