NBA calls on Wike to end ‘one chance’ killings in Abuja
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to take urgent steps to stop the rising incidents of ‘one chance’ killings in Abuja.
The call followed recent reports of residents being attacked, robbed and, in some cases, killed after boarding vehicles operated by criminals posing as commercial drivers within the FCT.
In a statement, the NBA expressed deep concern over what it described as a growing threat to public safety, warning that the activities of “one chance” operators have created fear among residents and commuters.

The association called on the FCT Administration to strengthen security surveillance, increase patrols, and ensure improved coordination among security agencies to dismantle criminal networks operating within the capital city.
The NBA also urged the police to carry out thorough investigations into reported cases and ensure that perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
While acknowledging ongoing efforts by the FCT authorities to improve security, the NBA stressed that more decisive action is needed to restore confidence and guarantee the safety of residents.

The association advised Abuja residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities, as authorities work to curb the menace.
