NCoS thwarts drug smuggling attempt in Ondo prison
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says it has successfully foiled a drug smuggling attempt at a medium-security correctional facility in Ondo State.
According to a statement by the command, the operation was uncovered during routine security screening and searches, where correctional officers intercepted prohibited substances being brought into the prison. The failed smuggling attempt was detected at the main gate, and the items were confiscated before they could reach inmates.

The NCoS said it has launched an internal investigation to determine how the contraband was brought close to the facility and to identify those involved. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring that proscribed items do not enter our facilities,” the spokesperson stated, adding that the service will sanction anyone found culpable.
The command also reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining order, discipline and security within all correctional centres across Ondo State, urging staff and visitors to cooperate fully with security protocols.

No arrests have yet been announced in connection with the incident, but authorities say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
The development underscores ongoing challenges in preventing the introduction of contraband into custodial centres nationwide and highlights efforts by correctional authorities to strengthen surveillance and anti-smuggling measures.
