NEDC, ADSUBEB train 150 school teachers in Adamawa

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) in collaboration with Adamawa State Universal Basic Education (ADSUBEB) has organised a two weeks training workshop for 150 school teachers on preparing pupils for examinations in Adamawa State.

Speaking at the inauguration of the training workshop in Yola, Mr Michael Tarfa, NEDC’s Adamawa coordinator, said the training is to build the capacity of teachers in the state for effective teaching and learning as well as to prepare pupils for examinations at the same time.

He said after the training, the quality of pupils that will be enrolled in secondary schools and higher institutions will be much better.

Tarfa called on the teachers to actively participate during the workshop and use the opportunity to improve themselves to make a difference in their respective schools.

Sandra Dagala, Assistant Manager of NEDC’s Education Endowment Fund (EEF), said the exercise is the second phase of teachers training in the state.

She said the second phase for the provision of classrooms, desks, and essential learning materials across 112 LGA in the region is about to commence.

According to her, EEF was established to fast-track education interventions in the North East, adding that arrangements have been concluded for the disbursement of scholarships for undergraduate, masters, and PhD applicants.

Dagala said that the commission also designed sports competitions in football, table tennis, and lawn tennis to boost societal bonds and the self-esteem of the younger generation in the region.

According to her, due to rising cases of drug abuse from long insurgency, a sensitisation programme was designed to ensure youths do not fall prey to such societal vices.

The programme coordinator, Mr Aminu Ciroma from Modibbo Adamawa University, Yola commended the NEDC and assured that the exercise would improve the capacity of teachers in the state.

Ciroma stressed that the training is one of the solutions to addressing the problems affecting the education sector in the state and North East.

Malam Auw Sa’ad, a teacher who spoke on behalf of the participants appreciated the NEDC and state government for the training workshop.

He described the workshop as an excellent experience that will bring about great improvements in their respective schools.
