NEDC supports Yobe flood victims with building materials, others (Pictures)

The North East Development Commission (NEDC), in partnership with the Yobe State Government, has launched the distribution of building materials to communities affected by recent floods across 13 local government areas of Yobe State.
The initiative aims to support recovery efforts after devastating floods damaged homes and disrupted livelihoods.
During the flag-off ceremony in Damaturu on Tuesday, NEDC Managing Director Mohammad Goni Alkali, represented by Yobe State Coordinator Prof. Ibrahim Ali Abbas, emphasised the severe impact of the disaster on communities.

“The NEDC has provided roofing materials and other essential building supplies to help families rebuild their homes,” Alkali stated.
In addition to construction materials, the commission donated rescue equipment to the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to improve disaster response efforts.
Alkali urged stakeholders to ensure transparent and equitable distribution of the aid while calling for proper utilisation of the resources.
Flagging off the distribution of the building materials to the 13 flood-affected communities, Yobe State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Mairo Ahmed Amshi, commended the NEDC for its swift and impactful intervention, describing it as a critical step toward alleviating the suffering of flood victims.
The commissioner acknowledged the state government’s sustained efforts in providing relief to affected communities, including previous distributions of food items, medical supplies, and temporary shelters.
Dr. Amshi stressed the importance of accountability, calling on community leaders and local authorities to monitor the distribution and usage of the materials to prevent misuse.
She urged beneficiaries to make the most of the support by using the materials for their intended purpose of rebuilding much safer and more resilient homes.
