Neptune Prime has on Sunday, deactivated its Twitter account in solidarity with the Nigerian Government.
The Director/Chief Executive Officer of Neptune Prime, Dr Hassan Gimba, in a statement said this became imperative as we are in a situation where it is Nigeria first, before any other thing.
The statement said, “We are deactivating Twitter because the times we are in calls for all Nigerians to rally behind the federal government and put all our differences aside so that we can have a united indivisible country.
“What Twitter did, is deemed as unfair, provocative and shows signs of disrespect to the elected President of Nigeria.
“If others can tweet provocative statements that can lead to mayhem, chaos and killings of people without Twitter taking actions but it will now delete the statements of the President warning such people to desist from their actions, so we do not see them (Twitter) as our friends.
“It is high time we looked at what is good for us as a country. We can no longer be subservient to a people who have enslaved our great-grandfathers, colonised us and now want to come through the back door to colonise us again, they can’t tell us what to do.
“So we are suspending Twitter and we call on all Nigerians to rally behind the federal government and anytime Twitter realises its mistake and deems it fit to respect our President and the Nation, then we can come back to it but meanwhile, Neptune Prime is deleting its account and I’m also deleting my personal account”, Dr Gimba said.
Recall that the Nigerian Government suspended Twitter’s operations in the country, in a statement on Friday.
Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information, said the government was forced to do so because of “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”.
Some social analysts in Nigeria said that Twitter has over 40 million subscribers in Nigeria but chose to open a head office in Ghana that has less than 5 million subscribers and pay tax to them.
They said young Nigerian tech geniuses should be aided to produce Nigerian owned social media platforms for other African countries to patronise just as they patronise our music.
