Neptune Prime’s Editorial Board Chair, Prof. Othman, appointed Vice Chancellor

‎The Governing Council of Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Khalid Othman as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the University.

‎HE Ali Abubakar Jatau, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, announced the appointment following the 36th Special Meeting held at Grand Amber Hotel and Suites, Dutse, Jigawa State.

‎The announcement was detailed in a press release signed by Nasiru M. Abdul, Director, Information and Protocol of the university.

‎The statement said the decision was reached after the submission and consideration of the Report of the Joint Council/Senate Selection Board on the Appointment of a Substantive Vice Chancellor for the University.

‎According to the Chairman, “the emergence of Prof. Othman followed a rigorous selection process involving 17 short listed applicants for the position”.

‎He further explained that 28 interested candidates initially applied for the vacant position, and the Search Team identified three additional candidates.

‎”The 17 short listed applicants, who were invited for the interview, participated in the rigorous and transparent selection process after which the selection board submitted the top three performing candidates to the Governing Council to select and approve the appointment of one of them as the Vice Chancellor”, he said.

‎Profile of the new Vice Chancellor

Professor Othman, an Agricultural Engineer from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, was born on July 22, 1962, in Bindawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

‎His academic journey included attending Bindawa primary school (1970–1977), Government Secondary School, Funtua (1977–1982), and the School of Basic Studies, ABU Zaria (1982–1983). He obtained his first, second, and third degrees from ABU Zaria between 1984 and 2007.

‎Professor Othman has had a distinguished career, rising from an Assistant Lecturer to a Professor, and holding various positions as a teacher, researcher, and administrator. He is a one-time Executive Director of the National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and is currently an internal member of the Governing Council, representing the Senate.

‎He is also Chairman of Neptune Prime’s Editorial Board as well as a columnist with Blueprint newspaper and several other online media platforms.

‎The new Vice Chancellor is married with nine children.
