Ngige in EFCC custody, not kidnapped, aide clarifies
Fred Chukwuelobe, media aide to former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has confirmed that the ex-governor of Anambra State is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
This clarification follows widespread reports late Monday alleging that Ngige had been abducted by unknown gunmen.
Chukwuelobe said he had been inundated with calls from friends and journalists trying to verify the rumoured kidnapping.
“I have been receiving calls in the past hour from friends and journalists seeking the veracity of the news making the rounds that His Excellency, Dr. Chris Ngige, former governor of Anambra State and immediate past minister of labour and employment, was kidnapped,” he said.
“Ngige is with the EFCC. He was not ‘abducted’ or ‘kidnapped’.”
He added that further details would be provided later.

Efforts to reach EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale for confirmation were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages.
Ngige had recently survived an attack on his convoy along the Nkpor–Nnobi road in Idemili North LGA on November 27, during which gunmen disguised in security uniforms opened fire, killing a woman who was recording the incident and injuring a police officer and civilians. Ngige was not present in the convoy during the assault.
