Story from Rabi’atu, Lokoja

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) under the umbrella of Challenged Parenthood initiative (CPI) says its intervention programmes will go a long way to help alleviate the sufferings of vulnerable groups in Kogi State.

The Executive Director, CPI, Ms Eunice Abimbola  Agbogun, disclosed this at the distribution of phase four Victim Support Fund (VSF) Covid-19 intervention to vulnerable populations in Lokoja.

The CPI Director said the Nigerian foundation for the support of victims of terrorism – Victim Support Fund is a programme sponsored by NGOs that provides interventions to support victims who have been affected by terrorism and other forms of calamity like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ms Abimbola Agbogun stated that since the advent of COVID-19, CPI, including other NGOs have rolled out different kinds of intervention programmes to help alleviate the health, social and economic hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on citizens of Kogi State, especially the vulnerable groups.

Chairman of the VSF committee, General TY Danjuma (Rtd), had last month set up a task force to drive VSF intervention on the Coronavirus pandemic and charged them with the mandate to design interventions that will directly contribute to the federal government’s prevention and mitigation strategy which has been through the provision of food support to vulnerable families/households as palliative measures.

Items distributed were bags of rice, wheat, garri, beans, vegetable oil and salt and about 1,500 vulnerable people benefited from it in Lokoja.

Some of the beneficiaries, Elder E. A. Ajayi, Mr Andrew Itachi and Mrs Ilayeton Mariam, described the initiative as commendable and urged spirited individuals in the society to assist those in need for a better society.
