Niger police arrest vigilante member for killing motorcycle rider

A vigilante member named Yahaya Mohammed has been apprehended by the Niger State Police Command for the alleged murder of a commercial motorcycle rider in the Shabalile area of Mokwa, the headquarters of Mokwa local council area of the state.
After the gruesome murder of the motorcycle rider, the police immediately launched an intensive investigation, valuable intelligence led them to an uncompleted building in Mokwa, where a Bajaj motorcycle suspected to be stolen from the deceased rider was recovered on the 2nd of October, 2023, at approximately 11:30 a.m.
This resulted in the arrest of Usman Yahaya Muhammed, a 20-year-old individual from Kinboku-Kudu village in Mokwa.
Upon conducting thorough interrogations, the suspect shockingly confessed to the heinous crime.

According to his account, he boarded the motorcycle with intentions to travel to Eppa village. However, during the journey, he inexplicably stopped the rider and mercilessly attacked him with a machete, leading to his untimely demise.
After committing the gruesome act, the suspect callously abandoned the victim’s body and made off with the stolen motorcycle. Despite his admission of guilt, he expressed bewilderment and pleaded for leniency, claiming he did not understand what compelled him to commit such a horrifying act and stating his desire to live.
In a separate development, 37 suspects allegedly involved in various criminal activities were also paraded alongside Yahaya Mohammed.
As the investigation remains ongoing, authorities are diligently working to gather more detailed evidence surrounding the crime.
Once a comprehensive picture has been established, the suspects will be formally charged to court to face justice.
