Police arrest four more over killing of three Cameroonian women in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended four additional suspects over the alleged abduction and murder of three female Cameroonian nationals in the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Awka.

According to him, the suspects were arrested during a coordinated security operation carried out on Friday in Nando, Anambra East Local Government Area.

“The Anambra Police Command has arrested four more suspects linked to the murder of three Cameroonian nationals in the state,” Ikenga said.

He added that security operatives recovered two pump-action guns, a locally made Beretta pistol, a machete, assorted ammunition, and charms from the suspects.

Reports indicate that the suspects, all male, include an alleged chief priest of a shrine and three others aged 27, 21, and 38.

Ikenga explained that the latest arrests followed actionable intelligence obtained from two suspects who had earlier been detained in connection with the crime.

Acting on the information, operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, stormed a shrine in Nando believed to be linked to the suspects. On arrival, officers reportedly encountered about 30 men at the premises.

“On sighting the police, the armed men opened fire on the operatives. The officers responded professionally, leading to a gun duel,” Ikenga stated.

He disclosed that the prime suspect, said to be a native of Oroma Etiti Anam, escaped with other gang members, some of whom sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange.

One of the arrested suspects was injured in the thigh during the confrontation and has been taken to hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

The police spokesperson said the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

He recalled that on the evening of November 28, 2025, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, conducted a search operation on the Omambala River in Anambra West Local Government Area.

The search, carried out in collaboration with professional divers and local volunteers, led to the recovery of two decomposed female bodies believed to be victims of the kidnapping incident.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.
