Bomai made this known recently during a round table discussion with personnel of the Service and stakeholders as well as partners.

Bomai noted that no piece of information is insignificant to the Controller hence it is pertinent that there should be balance in information and intelligence sharing between members of the Service and stakeholders.

“When it comes to security it is everybody’s business so balancing the security and the trade facilitation is the most difficult of all when it comes to the sharing of information and intelligence and in intelligence no piece of information is too small to the comptroller and to all of you once you know that it’ll affect you,” he noted.

“This is very critical because you are providers of information, it is that information that’ll bring safety in the entire supply chain which must be safe and secure.

“In intelligence we always allow those consignments with low risk to go without much delay because delay is what is causing a lot of problems but those coming from the high risk areas certainly will be subjected to physical examination,” he said.

The Controller however, acknowledges the importance of the stakeholders in the Service hence it must work hard to modernise with the view of facilitating with complying trade.

According to him, the Customs is one of the most automated agencies of government with about 60 to 70 percent automation helping to facilitate trade.

He urged partners of the Service to take advantage of the extant fast track scheme.
