‘Nigeria must go’ protest rocks Ghanaian streets
Hundreds of Ghanaians took to the streets on Tuesday, calling for the removal of Nigerian nationals due to rising concerns over crime and cultural tensions.
The protesters carried placards with slogans such as “End ritual murders now” and “Protect our children from foreign predators.”
They accused Nigerian immigrants, particularly those of Igbo descent, of engaging in illicit business practices, moral corruption, and economic exploitation.
The demonstrators alleged that Nigerians were involved in prostitution, occult activities, and had gained control over local markets, land, and commerce.

Some protesters also claimed that Nigerians had established their own traditional leaders, further fueling local frustration.
The protests drew parallels to the 1983 mass expulsion of undocumented immigrants, mostly Ghanaians, from Nigeria under President Shehu Shagari’s administration, which led to the popularisation of the term “Ghana Must Go” as a type of luggage.
Despite the growing unrest, Ghanaian officials in Accra have yet to issue an official statement or outline plans to address the protesters’ demands.
