Nigerian Army recalls 149 Soldiers dismissed for fleeing over lack of equipment to fight Boko Haram

The Chief of Army Staff, Attahiru Ibrahim, has recalled a total of 149 Nigerian soldiers who took to their heels after being attacked by Boko Haram terrorists in Marte.

The soldiers of the 153 Infantry Battalion, Marte absconded from duty after insurgents attacked their camps, leaving scores of their colleagues dead.

Complaining of inadequate provision of arms and ammunition by army authorities, led to the soldiers’ subsequent dismissal with their uniforms and identity cards retrieved.

However, Military police from the Army Headquarters in Abuja, led by a major was in Maiduguri, Borno State to screen the dismissed soldiers and officers.

The soldiers were moved to Maiduguri a few days after the attack and replaced by military men from Jaji Military Cantonment, Kaduna State.

Confirming the report, one of the earlier dismissed soldiers said, “We have been told to resume, I’m so happy,”

“We were overwhelmed and could not withstand the superior firepower of the terrorists. Sufficient weapons were not provided for us to fight the terrorists and we ran out of weapons. Some of the weapons provided for us were obsolete, so it was not really our fault. he added.
