Nigerian political leaders have failed the electorates – Aminu Dantata

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

A Kano based billionaire and international businessman, Alhaji Aminu Dantata has said that our political leaders, both past and present have failed to provide dividends of democracy to Nigerians. Presently, Nigerians are facing massive poverty, unemployment, and insecurity which is making it difficult to even move from one place to another to carry out their businesses.

Speaking when Arewa Elders under professor Ango Abdullahi visited him in Kano to condole him over the death of the former NRC Presidential candidate, Alhaji Bashir Tofa, Dantata hinted that the way and manner our political leaders are conducting their affairs especially condoling massive corruption and bad governance, it will make the country to never develop, instead, the country has gone back to an era of underdevelopment in spheres of life.

Left to him, Nigeria should go back to the parliamentary system of government which is cheaper, less cumbersome, demands less budget and few political officeholders. That is the only way Nigeria will develop and provide jobs and security to its people.

We were colonized by the British government and the idea of adopting a presidential system of government wouldn’t have arisen in the first place, we would have continued with the parliamentary system of government and by now, Nigeria can compete favourably with other developed nations, because we have rich resources.

We can develop and build many industries that will engage our jobless graduates, but unfortunately, our leaders who prefer the Presidential System of Government have today failed us. What do we have today? banditry activities, kidnappings, abductions and complete lack of security. The government has failed in all facets, as such, even if we are to continue with the presidential system, Nigerians should avoid money politics and elect sincere and decent leaders that will take us out of our present crisis.

Finally, he called on Nigerians to forget political and religious differences and come together and rescue the country from total collapse. We should forget about who is Igbo, or Hausa, or Yoruba because if God wants one tribe and one religion to be in Nigeria, it is not beyond his powers.
