NiMet forecasts 3 days of sunshine, isolated thunderstorms nationwide
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine, haziness, and isolated thunderstorms across various parts of the country from Sunday to Tuesday.
In its weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, NiMet predicted sunny and hazy conditions over parts of Katsina, Yobe, Kano, and Jigawa States on Sunday morning, with the rest of the northern region expected to remain sunny. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are likely over parts of southern Taraba.
For the central region, the agency projected sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains over parts of Benue and Kogi in the afternoon and evening hours.

NiMet further forecast a cloudy atmosphere over the southern region, with chances of morning thunderstorms and light rains in Ebonyi, Ogun, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States. Thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected to continue across most southern states later in the day.
On Monday, sunny skies are anticipated in the northern region during the morning hours, with isolated thunderstorms likely over southern Kaduna and Taraba later in the day. The central region will experience partly cloudy conditions early, while isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains are expected over southern Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, and Nasarawa.
NiMet also projected cloudy conditions across the southern region, with morning thunderstorms in Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, followed by moderate rainfall in Enugu, Ogun, Oyo, Abia, Imo, and other parts later in the day.
By Tuesday, the northern region is expected to remain largely sunny, while the central areas will experience sunny skies with patches of clouds. The southern region will continue to have cloudy conditions, with morning thunderstorms and light rains in Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, followed by moderate rainfall later in the day across coastal and inland states.

NiMet advised motorists to drive cautiously during rainfall and urged farmers to avoid applying fertilisers and pesticides just before rain to prevent nutrient loss.
The agency also cautioned residents to secure loose objects, unplug electrical appliances during storms, and avoid standing under tall trees. Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning.
