NLC, FCTA workers storm Industrial Court, demand Wike’s removal

Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Wednesday staged a protest at the National Industrial Court in Abuja, demanding the removal of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The protesters, carrying placards with various inscriptions, accused the FCT minister of actions they described as anti-labour and hostile to workers’ welfare. They also expressed dissatisfaction with what they termed persistent intimidation and disregard for workers’ rights under the current FCTA leadership.

The demonstration coincided with proceedings at the Industrial Court, as labour leaders insisted that their action was meant to draw national attention to their grievances and compel the federal government to intervene.

Addressing journalists at the scene, NLC officials said the protest was peaceful and aimed at seeking justice for affected workers, urging the authorities to address their demands promptly to avoid further industrial unrest.

Security operatives were deployed around the court premises to maintain order, while activities at the complex were temporarily disrupted by the protest.

The FCTA is yet to officially respond to the demands raised by the protesting workers.
