The delegation witnessed the presence of covert refineries, illegal bunkering operations, and severe environmental degradation, all contributing to significant economic losses for the nation.

Comprising the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Mr Ekperipe Ekpo, the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Malam Mele Kyari, the team visited the Trans-Niger Pipeline Right of Way in Owaza, where they observed multiple dismantled illegal connections in the area.

Addressing the site, Malam Badaru urged residents of the Niger Delta to cease crude oil theft and economic sabotage, emphasizing the importance of peaceful coexistence.

Kyari highlighted that oil theft in vessels is traceable but stressed the need for oil-bearing communities to actively participate in curbing theft within their areas.

Mr. Patrick Godwin, Chief Security Officer of Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Ltd., reported that some arrests had been made, and culprits have been arraigned.

Ribadu commended the efforts of the security agencies, community security contractors, and NNPC Ltd. in the battle against oil theft and economic sabotage.

He emphasized that not only is the environment and livelihood being destroyed, but the country is also being deprived of revenue that could bolster the economy and strengthen the Naira.
