Northern Governors decry deadly attacks in Kwara, Katsina, Benue, call for urgent security clampdown
The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has condemned the recent wave of violent attacks and killings in parts of Kwara, Katsina and Benue states, describing the incidents as barbaric, senseless and an affront to the nation’s collective conscience.
The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, expressed the position of the northern governors following deadly assaults on several communities across the three states.

In Kwara State, suspected terrorists reportedly attacked Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area on Tuesday night. In Katsina State, no fewer than 20 people were killed in Doma A and Doma B communities of Tafoki Ward, Faskari Local Government Area. A separate attack was also reported in Abande community of Mbaikyor Ward, Turan, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, where scores of residents were said to have been killed.
In a statement made available to News Point Nigeria, Governor Inuwa Yahaya conveyed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of innocent lives, extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, affected communities, and the governments and people of Kwara, Katsina and Benue states.
“These heinous acts of violence are unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest terms,” he said. “The continued targeting of defenceless citizens, including women, children and the elderly, highlights the sheer inhumanity of the attackers and reinforces the urgent need for firm and decisive action.”

The NSGF chairman commended the governors of the affected states for their leadership and resilience amid persistent security challenges, noting their efforts to support impacted communities, strengthen local security structures and work closely with federal authorities to restore peace.
He urged security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering, surveillance and coordinated operations to track down those responsible and their sponsors, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains a sacred responsibility of the state.
“The Northern Governors’ Forum stands firmly with our security agencies and calls on them to deploy all lawful means to bring the perpetrators to justice. These crimes must not go unpunished,” Yahaya stated.

He reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to collaborating with the Federal Government, security agencies, traditional rulers and community leaders to tackle insecurity through a mix of robust security responses, intelligence-driven policing and long-term socio-economic measures.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya also prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and asked God to grant speedy recovery to those injured, while urging citizens to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies in the collective fight against criminality.
