NUPENG calls off strike after DSS intervention

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has suspended its nationwide strike following the resolution of a dispute with the Dangote Group.

The industrial action, which began on Monday, was a protest against the company’s refusal to let its employees join the union.

The strike was called off after the Department of State Services (DSS) held an intervention meeting.

The meeting included the Ministers of Labour and Finance, officials from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and a management team from Dangote led by Seyu Dantata.

Although the exact terms of the agreement have not been made public, sources confirmed that both parties reached a compromise that led to the strike’s suspension.
