NURTW Turmoil: Gunshots erupt as armed thugs seize control of Abuja secretariat

Tension gripped the National Secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Abuja on Tuesday morning as two factions within the organization clashed.

Reports from Politics Nigeria indicate that the NURTW has been embroiled in a leadership crisis for some time now.

The clash occurred when the Musiliu Akinsanya’s Lagos Parks and Management Committee, led by Tajudeen Badru Agbede, reportedly mobilized thugs from Lagos State to storm the union’s secretariat in Garki 2, Abuja.

These thugs launched an attack on national officers, including the president, and forcefully took control of the office.

Notably, this incident unfolded in the presence of armed policemen and Department of State Service (DSS) operatives who were deployed to maintain law and order, as reported by Sahara Reporters.

However, the situation escalated on Tuesday when a group loyal to Baruwa from neighbouring states attempted to stage a protest aimed at displacing the rival faction.

Unfortunately, their efforts were thwarted by the armed security operatives stationed at the secretariat premises.

As a result, chaos ensued, causing road users and passersby to seek safety as the police fired gunshots to disperse the irate mob.
