Stray bullet from suspected cult attack kills young woman in Bayelsa
A 20-year-old woman identified as Blessing has been killed by a stray bullet during a suspected cult-related attack in Bayelsa State.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, April 2, in Amassoma community, where gunmen reportedly attempted to attack a young man at a laundry shop.
According to a police source, the intended target noticed the assailants and tried to escape, prompting the attackers to open fire. In the process, a stray bullet missed the fleeing victim and struck Blessing, who had just returned from church.
“A suspected cultist was attempting to attack a young man, and immediately he saw them, he ran away. They started shooting at him, and one of the bullets hit Blessing,” the source revealed.
Another eyewitness confirmed that the young woman died shortly after being hit, while an additional victim sustained injuries but was later treated.
The spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Musa Muhammed, confirmed the incident, stating that the victim was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
He added that investigations are ongoing to track down those responsible for the attack.
