Police arrest two men for abducting traffic warden on duty
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested two men, Olopade Abraham and Emmanuel Taiwo, for allegedly abducting a senior traffic warden, ST Oliniju Kehinde, in Akure.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the police, the incident occurred on April 3, 2026, when Abraham, driving a Toyota Avensis with registration number NND 398 EA, alongside Taiwo, reportedly violated traffic regulations at Cathedral Junction in Akure by running a red light.
While attempting to enforce compliance, the traffic warden, attached to ‘A’ Division, approached the vehicle and instructed the occupants to proceed to the station.
However, instead of complying, the driver allegedly sped off to an unknown destination with the officer still inside the car.
The situation prompted an immediate alarm, drawing the attention of a nearby patrol team from the Fanibi Division. The officers quickly responded, pursued the suspects, and successfully intercepted the vehicle at Winners Chapel Junction along Ondo Road.
The abducted traffic warden was rescued unharmed, while the suspects were apprehended and taken into custody along with the vehicle.
Police authorities say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
