NDLEA busts drug syndicate, seizes cocaine hidden in stock fish bound for India

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a major drug trafficking operation, intercepting a consignment of cocaine cleverly concealed in stock fish and destined for export to India.

According to the agency, the illicit drugs were discovered during a routine inspection, where operatives identified suspicious packaging within the stock fish shipment. A thorough search revealed quantities of cocaine hidden inside the dried fish, in what officials described as a sophisticated smuggling method.

The operation led to the arrest of suspected members of the drug syndicate, who are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.

NDLEA officials noted that the interception highlights the evolving tactics of drug traffickers, who continue to exploit legitimate trade goods to conceal illegal substances and evade detection.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying surveillance at ports and borders, warning that those involved in drug trafficking will face the full weight of the law.

The seizure marks another significant breakthrough in the agency’s fight against illicit drug networks operating within and beyond Nigeria.
