Panic at ABU Zaria gate as ammunition falls from moving vehicle
Story by Mercy Adaje
A brief panic broke out at the main gate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, after several rounds of ammunition reportedly fell from a moving passenger bus along the Zaria–Katsina highway.
The incident, captured in a video shared on X by counter-terrorism platform Zagazola Makama, occurred on Tuesday directly in front of the university gate and left pedestrians and motorists startled.
An eyewitness, Musa, said the bullets dropped from a commercial vehicle heading towards Katsina.
“We suddenly saw the bullets fall off the bus as it sped past the gate. Before anyone could react, the vehicle was already gone,” he said.
He added that some bystanders quickly gathered the ammunition and alerted security officials in the area.
A student who asked not to be named described the occurrence as “strange and frightening,” noting that many feared the ammunition could be linked to supplies for bandits operating in Kaduna and Katsina.
