The Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative (PCNI) has dispatched a medical team to the north-east to address the healthcare needs of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the area.
Dr. Sidi-Ali Mohammed, the Head, Humanitarian Assistance, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, PCNI, made this known at the PCNI Monthly Coordination Forum and Tracking Indicators Validation Workshop on January 25 in Abuja.
The team has concluded its outreach projects in Yobe and Borno, and will shortly depart for Adamawa. Upon completion of the Adamawa outreach, the medical mission will repeat the circuit.
According to Dr. Mohammed, PCNI has been able to address some basic needs of the IDPs and is currently catering for vulnerable persons under the auspices of the Rapid Health Response Programme.
The programme is designed to supplement the operations of other health partners and fill identified gaps in healthcare service delivery in the region. He said that PCNI had been able to achieve significant milestones in addressing the basic needs of the IDPs in the affected states, such as health, education and resettlement as well as also address the issue of supply of relief items to the IDPs in the camps and host communities.
