Plateau court sentences trader to 1 year imprisonment for buying stolen water pump

A 32-year-old trader, Salim Sulaiman has been sentenced to one year in jail for buying a stolen water pump in Plateau state.

An Area Court judge, Shawomi Bokkos, pronounced the sentence on the culprit after he pleaded guilty to the charge. The judge, however, gave Sulaiman an option of N50,000 fine and ordered him to pay another N10,000 as compensation to the complainant.

The prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Gokwat, earlier informed the court that the case was reported on Aug. 14 at the “C” Division Police station by one Bashir Musa, the complainant.

He said Sulaiman bought the stolen machine from those who stole from the complainant’s house, adding that the offence contravened the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code.
