Plateau State police lift seals on 17 LG Council Secretariats

The Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, Okoro Julius-Alawari, has issued a directive to unseal all 17 Local Government Council Secretariats in the state, a move that comes two months after their closure.

Recall that in early July, the state police command had sealed the entrances to these Secretariats, following the dismissal of all chairmen and councillors of the local councils by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

The governor’s actions sparked litigations and tensions, ultimately leading to the police sealing off the council secretariats.

In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, the Commissioner of Police explained that this decision aims to enable democratically elected chairmen and their councilors to effectively carry out their administrative functions.

The statement reads: “In an effort to ensure the smooth operation of the 17 Local Government Secretariats in the State, the Police High Command has conducted a thorough review of the situation. Consequently, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police has been directed to lift the seals on the offices of the Local Government Council Chairmen and Councillors.

This will allow these elected officials to access and operate from their respective offices without hindrance, pending the outcome of their legal proceedings.”

Furthermore, the statement indicated that all 17 chairmen across the state will regain access to their offices and resume work starting Monday, August 28.
